Not only is it nice for Des Moines to gain notoriety in a national publication, but this time, we’ve been deemed “cool,” as opposed to a safe place to live or a good place to do business or a nice place to raise a family. Politico, no doubt in town for the 2016 Presidential Caucuses, has published a glowing article reviewing Des Moines’ evolution from the post-war, suburban sprawl-inspired 1950s to its current version as “one of the richest, most vibrant, and, yes, hip cities in the country, where the local arts scene, entrepreneurial startups and established corporate employers are all thriving.” Politico tells the story of Des Moines well, sprinkling in great history and inside info that make it especially interesting for people familiar with the subject.
